Ted's Looking a Little Haggard

Just when we thought we'd heard all there was to hear about Evangelist Ted Haggard and his homosexual escapades while decrying the vileness of out LGBT people and championing ex-gay therapy, HBO piles on with more information.

Brady Boyd, who succeeded Haggard as Pastor of the New Life Church has come forward with information that Haggard had a sex for cash relationship with a young ministry volunteer.
Boyd said an "overwhelming pool of evidence" pointed to an "inappropriate, consensual sexual relationship" that "went on for a long period of time ... it wasn't a one-time act." Boyd said the man was in his early 20s at the time. He said he was certain the man was of legal age when it began... The disclosure comes as Haggard, 52, is about to give a series of high-profile interviews to promote the cable documentary about his time in exile. He is scheduled to appear on CNN's Larry King Live on Thursday, the date of the documentary's premiere, and already has taped "The Oprah Winfrey Show." ( AP)

It appears that Brady's motives for coming forward with the new revelation centers on the fact that the HBO documentary takes the church to task for it's preaching of "forgiveness" but after Haggard's scandal turned him out of their ranks and reviled him publicly. Brady seems to be acting preemptively to insure that if the church's hypocrisy is brought to light that Haggard will suffer too.

In response Haggard spoke to the San Francisco Chronicle:
Over the phone a few weeks ago, Haggard, 52, says he realizes that some people will see his life spiral, recall his anti-gay marriage views and condemnation of homosexual behavior, and say he deserved it... In the film, he talks about how the church could have used his story as an example of how to preach forgiveness. But churches are a business, too, he said, and he acknowledged that he was bad for business. He said the church told him to "go to hell."
Oh well, I can't have a lot of sympathy for any of the players in this drama. Haggard and his new found sexual orientation, "Straight but With Issues" deserves little more than scorn. Meanwhile, what did he expect at the hands of a church whose main goal is to preach intolerance and hatred disguised as "love and forgiveness"? Personally, I think these goons all deserve one another.
